On-site caricature service at Mt. Faber.

Event: Asean Youth Festival-Opening Ceremony.
Date of event: 29 July 2008 Tuesday.
Venue: Faber Rock @ Jewels Box,Mt. Faber,Singapore.
Duration: 1 hour (6.00pm to 8.00pm).
Average drawing speed: 2.5 minutes per head.

Mt. Faber is where tourists board cable cars to & from the Sentosa Resort Island. Doing an event there is like going on tour as the scenery is great. While drawing,I could enjoy the views overlooking The Sentosa Island as well as the city skyline. The name Mount Faber sounds like a huge mountain but the journey from ground zero to the top was only a 3-minute drive. The highest ground in Singapore is like a hill to me as I'm from Malaysia where there are lots of huge mountains. The event was held on the 2nd. floor where the gazebo is.I managed to snap a few shots of the scenery before & after the event.

On arrival at the main entrance.

Just before we went off,we roam around the area & took a pic of this cable car station.

Bye,bye Jewel Box.

On the way down to the carpark, the night scenery was something you can enjoy.

Individual caricature.

A4 size caricature of ASSet Chief.
Medium used: Colour-marker on white paper.
Type:Face with cartoon body.
Client's purpose: Gift for their chief.

If I'm not wrong,ASSeT is Singapore's version of SWAT Team. The client wanted me to draw the subject as fat as possible for the fun of it. As far as I know, people who serve in the police force can't be too fat & thought that what I'd drawn was bulky enough. To my surprise, the client actually wanted it to be even fatter but too bad it was done & couldn't be altered. He was a bit dissapointed but at least the resemblance was there.

Photographs taken as a hobby at Harbour Front-Part 1.

These photographs were taken during a recent photography session on a late Sunday afternoon with my friend,Henry Foong,a photography enthusiast. They were all about ships & boats which were the first things we saw when we reached the premises of Harbour Front,Vivo City,Singapore.Out of curiosity,I'd tried various settings to capture those still cruise ships & moving boats with maximum details possible & at the same time to see how far my camera can go.The camera I used was not a DSLR,yet the sharpness was what impressed me most.To be continued...

Camera used: Sony DSC-H7.

Couple caricature done from photographs.

A4 size caricature of a hair stylist & his girlfriend.
Medium used: Colour-marker on white paper.
Type: Face with cartoon body.
Client's purpose: Wallpaper print.

The client wanted the caricature to be done into a huge poster size & pasted onto the wall of their hair salon in Far East Plaza. It was just 2 doors away from my shop.Unfortunately they are no longer there.A victim of the high rental rate of the plaza. Not easy to sustain nowadays,sigh...

Individual portrait & caricature done from photograph.

The subject was my ex-boss Mr Gilbert Osuga from a Japanese Interior Design & Architecture firm,KKS International(S) at which I worked for more than 3 years during the early 90s.He was a Japanese-American who passed away in 2004 & the company wanted a portrait to be hung on their conference room wall together with the founder who passed away in Japan earlier.Apart from the portrait, they wanted a caricature to be printed on their thank-you card for those who attended the memorial service. The caricature reminded everybody of the image of our late boss. They provided me with a whole stack of his photographs to choose from but I decided to draw from the same photo which was the sharpest of all. These art works were actually sponsored by me as I felt that this was the least I could contribute to make the service more memorable to all those who knew him.

Pictures taken as a hobby.

Some pictures I took last month at midnight have a graphical approach. Personally,I always admire pictures I see in automobile magazines. Those pictures really inspire me to dream of taking some for my own collection but didn't know how to shoot until recently when I discovered the strength of my camera. By exploring further,I managed to snap some good shots. I wish that one day my photogarphs will be as good as those in magazines.Just keep dreaming :-D...
