On-site caricature drawing service.

Event: Christmas Party- Vopak Terminals Singapore Pte Ltd.
Date of event: 21 Dec 2010 (Tuesday).
Venue: PSA Building,Alexandra Road, Singapore.
Duration: 3.00pm to 5.30pm (2.5 hours).
Average drawing speed: 6 minutes per head.

This Christmas party was held on the 32nd floor of PSA Building at the office of Vopak. As they required 2 artists, I seek the service of my friend Jit to partner me. We were seated in the conference room which had a table that was too wide for us. Due to this, the subjects were seated a bit too far from us. It was not a big issue anyway because the room had enough lights throughout as it was done in the day time.

Individual caricature.

A4 size caricature depicting a young racer done from photograph.
Medium used: Black ink pen on white paper.
Type: Face with cartoon body & background.
Client's purpose: Birthday gift.

The client who was the subject's girlfriend, I supposed, ordered this caricature using a photo that showed the younger face of him driving a Ferrari car with a peaceful country side setting. The reason was unknown though. It was then given to the subject as a birthday gift.

Individual caricature.

A3 size caricature of a clumsy man done from photograph.
Medium used: Color-pencil on white paper.
Type: Face with cartoon boy & background.
Client's purpose: Farewell gift.

A gift from the subject's colleagues to remind him of his clumsiness during his time with them. What a brilliant idea by the client to record those incidents & did a caricature out of it. I could imagine the laughter when the drawing was presented to him.
For your info, the Chinese words were given to me to be traced onto the drawing as I can't read or write them.

Wedding caricature.

A3 size wedding caricature done from photographs.
Medium used: Color-marker on white paper.
Type: Face with cartoon body & background.
Client's purpose: Wedding card printing.

The couple, Ash & Kate, who are from Australia & England respectively ordered a piece of caricature for their wedding card printing. Both of them were working here in Singapore at that time & got married. They were very friendly & requested for wild caricature instead of my usual style. I studied their features & came out with an exaggerated version. They liked it very much & ordered another one with a different design for their 'Order Of Service' card.

On-site caricature drawing service for Straits Asia Resources Ltd.

Event: Year end dinner.
Date of event: 10 Dec 2010 (Friday).
Venue: Opitome at Indo-Chine,Asian Civilisation Musuem,Singapore.
Duration: 7.00pm to 10.00pm (3 hours).
Average drawing speed: 6 minutes per head.

This was the 2nd event I did on the hot day of 10 Dec 2010 when all the caricaturists in Singapore were fully booked. Enquiries kept coming in till the last minute but there wasn't any caricaturist available. Those who got us were the lucky ones. How nice if I can clone myself to handle more events ;).
This event required me to do a roving job after one & a half hour into the session when everybody was seated for their dinner. The earlier part of the gig when I was seated & drawing at the pre-function hall was not easy as the place was too dim for me. No matter how, the show must go on. The 2nd part had a better lighting condition at the dining hall but I was quite tired moving about & drawing the guests in a standing position.
Most importantly, the guests were entertained & happy...

On arrival at the venue which was located opposite Boat Quay at the Singapore River.

Shrink caricature art.

Event: Canon- Pre D&D.
Date of event: 10 Dec 2010 (Friday).
Venue: Resorts World Sentosa, Singapore.
Duration: 5.00pm to 6.00pm (1 hour).
Average drawing speed: 2 minutes per head.

I was engaged as one of the caricaturists for the shrink caricature job that required 2 artists. Shrink caricature is a form of art that needs a caricaturist to draw on a small piece of plastic which was then put into an oven to be baked & shrunk it before being made into a magnet that is about the size of your thumb nail. The magnet that can be stuck onto the door of your refrigerator. Sometimes they make it into a key chain for the guests to take home. I felt that it was too difficult to draw a person's face onto such a small surface. Because of the small size, most of my caricatures did not come out as good as what I usually do but the guests didn't mind it at all. It's just for the fun of it & very popular too.
I was being booked 3 months in advance for this event as 10 Dec 2010 was a hot day for caricaturists. All of us were fully booked on this particular day. I was engaged in another 3-hour event after that.

Upon arrival at the ballroom of RWS.

Here are 4 tiny caricatures for your viewing. These were raw pieces before being shrunk.

The drawing was in progress. It took less than 2 minutes to complete a drawing. The fastest caricatures I ever done lol...
