Speedy live caricature drawing event.

Event: Panasonic PRDS 35th Anniversary Dinner & Dance.
Date of event: 8 Nov 2008 Saturday.
Venue: Suntec City,Singapore.
Duration: 1 hour (6.00pm to 7.00pm).
Average drawing speed: 3 minutes per head.
Event theme: World Of Sport.

I was engaged as the caricaturist for this grand pre dinner & dance event which was held at hall 602, Suntec City Convention Hall. Everybody was in sportswear except me simply b'cos I was not told about the theme of this event earlier. The guests, who were also the staff, were mostly young & energetic people from around this region. A long queue was form as soon as the session started. By looking at the situation, I had to activate the speedy mode in order to draw more. I managed to capture 20 faces within an hour. Apart from caricature & face painting, there were some other activities & games for entertainment before the actual event started with stage performances.

Photographs of Esplanade-Part 1.

This set of photographs were taken in mid July at 10pm using my Sony semi-pro DSC-H7 camera. That was before I bought my DSLR camera. As this was not shot using a DSLR camera, the quality of the images was surprisingly very good. The sharpness impressed me the most.I've seen many images of this icon on postcards, magazines, etc & that had inspired me to try shooting it myself. Satisfaction guaranteed :))

The overall view of the building.

A shot from a distance. The weather wasn't good, that's why the sky colour was greyish.

On-site caricature drawing service.

Event: Kids' birthday party.
Date of event: 26 Oct 2008 Sunday.
Venue: Rivervale Condo,Sengkang, Singapore.
Duration: 2 hours (11.30am to 1.30pm).
Average drawing speed: 8 minutes per head.

The client Michelle found my contact thru the internet & called me for a booking just a few days before the event. She requested me to draw all the kids at her 2-year old daughter's birthday party. There were more than 10 toddlers who came with their parents. Through my experience, kids are extremely difficult to capture simply b'cos they can't sit still so I suggested to take pictures of them & draw from my laptop screen instead. To take photos of toddlers was a challenge b'cos in order to get them to look at my camera, it wasted some time. After the session, I realised that drawing using images takes a longer time to complete compared to the sit & pose method. I was regretting a little by suggesting to draw them this way as I'd to spend about half an hour extra on the job including taking pictures of every one of them without extra fee. No choice lor, what to do...but what they got were better quality drawings.
The event was held at the function hall beside the swimming pool. I was alone then & didn't have enough time to take photos of those artworks I did, too bad. However I only managed to snap some pictures of the atmosphere as well as the surroundings during the event.

Group caricature.

A4 size caricature of a group on roller coaster ride.
Medium used: Colour-pencil on white paper.
Client's purpose: Illustration.

The client was from an advertising firm that wanted this artwork for an illustration work which they were doing for their client. I did not know their actual purpose of doing this as I've not seen their finished artwork. This caricature was of a different type as the resemblance of the subjects was not important. I was required to fabricate their expressions which was quite a difficult task. A few drafts were sent to them for comments & approval before the final work was executed.I supposed my drawing was quite ok as they accepted it without complaints.

Client's purpose: For memory sake.

This swiss couple was once working here in Singapore. They were married & planned to settle down back home. On-site live caricature drawing event.

Event: Lundbeck (Investigator Meeting Welcome Dinner).
Date of event: 24 Oct 2008 Friday.
Venue: Upper Club, Chijmes, Singapore.
Duration: 4 hours (7.00pm to 11.00pm).
Average drawing speed: 3 minutes per head.

This event required me to caricature about 70 guests, so I proposed a 4-hour session in order to capture everybody. I was at full speed of less than 3 minutes per drawing for the first 2 hours but slowed down at the third 'cos almost all of them had been drawn by then. Apart from a group of vocal performers, I was the only entertainer. The event ended at 10pm although they had engaged me till 11pm. After the session, the client invited me & my girlfriend who assisted me that evening for a delicious Indian buffet meal.
