Family portrait done from photographs.

A2 size family portrait.
Medium used: Soft-pastel on off-white Canson paper.
Client's purpose: To be hung in their living hall.

This family was here for an operation of their eldest son(on the extreme right side) who was featured in a TV programme about foreigners seeking medical treatment in Singapore.I was surprised to see them on TV.Unfortunately,I couldn't recall which country they were from. This portrait was done from individual photos taken by me at my shop upon ordering as they didn't have any ready photos. They waited for about 2 weeks for it to be completed & were very happy with the result. At least they've got a memorable art piece to bring back to their country.

Family portrait done from photographs.

A1 size portrait of the Boey Family.
Medium used: Oil paint on stretched canvas.
Client's purpose: To be hung in their living hall.

The painting.

Photographs submitted.

Mr Boey is my ex-boss & good friend who used to hang the studio taken family portrait in his living room. After his youngest son graduated from a university in the UK,the portrait has become outdated to him.So he approached me in 2007 to paint it in oil just to include the graduation robe for his youngest son so that it looks updated & complete. At the same time his wife Ann took the opputunity the change her clothing to cheong-sam as well. She provided me another photo of herself wearing the cheong-sam with the same pose.I call this a mix & match portrait painting which I've done a lot especially for Malay families when I first started my shop back in 1999.

Coloured portrait done from Black & White photograph.

A2 size portrait of mother & son.
Medium used: Solf-pastel on off-white paper.
Client's purpose: For memory sake.

This portrait was done in 2001.To date, I have done quite a number of such portraits. From black & white photograph to coloured portrait is not an easy job.I have to imagine the colours in order to match the time or era of the photograph taken. For instance, the colour of the clothings should have the feel of the 60s.Green colour was used for the background simply because Malay people like it.
