I was hired by Singapore's TV Station, MediaCorp,to draw a murder suspect in their Channel '8' Mandarin drama 'Metamorphosis' 4 years ago. In the 7th minute segment of the 1st episode, it showed my hand sketching the suspect. My hand was to represent actor Terence Cao who acted as a CID agent investigating a crime scene. My job took only less than 30 minutes to complete but the excitement was the involvement in the shooting with the director shouting "ACTION!" & "CUT!" every now & then. Apart from that, I got the chance to wear Terence's watch for the shooting as well as got close to him when the director told him to stand right behind me for the camera man to capture the transition of the scene. What an experience to be acting in a local TV drama, with only my hand but not my face, haha... ;)
Fyi, the drama has just started a replay on 2 Feb 2012 at 12.50am on Channel '8'.

On-site portrait sketching service.
Event: Molteni & C - Grand Openning.
Date of event: 1 Dec 2010 (Wednesday).
Venue: Newton 200.
Duration: 7.00pm to 10.00pm (3 hours).
Average drawing speed: 10 minutes per head.
My portrait & caricature artist friend, Jit, & myself were hired for this portrait sketching event on the 1st day of Dec. We were given only 10 minutes to finish every guest. A super fast job I ever done as far as portrait sketching is concern. Normally, we need about 20 minutes for every head drawn but since this was the client's request, I had tried my best to come up with portrait work with minimal shading especially on the faces. It was like racing against time, no fun.
Upon arrival, the client told Jit that we could do caricature if we wanted to but I opted for the portrait simply because the tool that I brought was meant for sketching. At the same time, I wanted to challenge myself to finsh every piece in 10 minutes. The result was not so satisfying but at least I did it within the given time. Another personal achievement I supposed.
When I realised that the invited guests were mostly architects & interior designers, I told Jit that we were also part of them as Jit used to be an architect & me, an interior designer. What an event for both of us...LOL

Live portrait sketching event for Citibank.
Event: The Launch of Citigold Private Client.
Date of event: 8 Apr 2010.
Venue: Capital Square, Church St, Singapore.
Duration: 1.00pm to 4.00pm (3 hours).
Average drawing speed: 20 minutes per head.
I did another rare portrait sketching event in 2 months but this time there were 8 of us ocuppying a room respectively. My artist friend Jit sought the services of us as the client requested for portrait sketching instead of caricature. It was hard time for him to find so many portrait artists who could do a hand-drawn portrait in less than 30 minutes in Singapore. He couldn't find enough & end up asking some caricaturists to do the job.
All of us were required to wear total black smartly. We were like The Men In Black except for the lady artist who wore a black & white dress. Same as the last Chanel event we did last month, we were told not to take pictures of the guests holding the completed artwork, so I end up taking pictures of the artworks without the models as you can see in this blog post.
The venue was at Capital Square Building.
On the way to the briefing before proceeding to our respective rooms.
Before we started, we took a group photo of all the Black Artists for this high end event. Jit was in the extreme left & I was standing at the extreme right.

Unlike the last Chanel event, this one was so comfortable with proper lighting & set up.
One of the artists, Poon, who had to stay behind to finish the big boss' portrait drawn from a photo. Poor Poon...

On-site live portrait sketching service for Chanel.
Event: Chanel Fine Jewellery Exibition.
Date of event: 10,11 & 12 March 2010.
Venue: Theatreworks, Mohd Sultan Road, Singapore.
Duration: A total of 9 hours(2 sessions per day).
Average drawing speed: 20 minutes per head.
My caricaturist friend Jit sought my service to do this rare portrait sketching job for a high-end client 'Chanel' during their jewellery show recently. I was too used to do caricatures at events that I'd forgotten to bring along my pencil for this particular job on the first day. Luckily, Jit had some spare ones for me. Both of us were required to wear all black for all sessions. Anyway, we would wear all black by default for most of our jods. That went well with us.
The client was very cautious not to allow us taking pictures of the guests together with the portrait for certain reason. Maybe they were high society people who need privacy but they didn't mind us taking those artworks that we did.
We had 2 sessions per day of which one was meant for lunch crowd & the other was for the dinner crowd. The last session on the 3rd day was the toughest one which we had to draw non-stop for 3 hours. Tired after the final session but we did get some tips from the last guest, at least enough for us to pay our parking fees, hehe...
The difficulty of this job was that the light was not to our advantage. It was dim & not properly shone on the guests face so we had a hard time trying to figure out the features from the hard shadow on their faces. I didn't enjoy drawing at all but what to do, the show must go on...
