On-site caricature drawing service for IBM.

Event: FY2010 IBM Business Partner Appreciation Evening.
Date of event: 24 Nov 2010 (Friday).
Venue: Arena at Clarke Quay Singapore.
Duration: 6.00pm to 8.00pm (2 hours).
Average drawing speed: 3 minutes per head.

My tattoo artist friends Ivan & Lee Lee got me to do this event that required roving service. I activated the speedy mode of an average of 3 minutes per head drawn so that I didn't have to stay too long at a spot to avoid tiredness on my legs. At times I had to squat down to draw those guests who were sitting on sofas. Compared to my usual events which I sit & draw, it was quite tiring. Also, the standard of my drawing was not as high as my usual events simply because of the roving nature as well as the speed at which I drew. Honestly, I do not like to do roving service as it would more or less affect the quality of my work. Apart from that, my tools keep dropping onto the floor & I may have to do extra work to pick them up. What an irritation...
After the 2 hour session, I stayed back to watch the stage show which was quite interesting especially when the emcee fooling around with the guests.

Caricature of a female boxer..

A4 size caricature of a female boxer done from photo.
Medium used: Colour-marker/ Colour-pencil.
Type: Face with cartoon body.
Client's purpose: Casual gift.

The client ordered a caricature for his girlfriend but I ended up doing 2 pieces because of my mistake of doing it with a wrong medium. He wanted a colour pencil caricature but I did a colour marker one instead. When I realised the mistake just before his collection date, I quickly came up with a colour pencil version.
Of course he was given only one piece as what he had ordered & didn't even know the existence of the 2nd piece.

Jit & I were hired separately by the client for this event that required 3 caricaturists. The 3rd artist was Jit's sister who surprised me with her ability to draw caricature too. As that day was a hot day & he couldn't find any caricaturist, his sister came in as a back up. I was a bit moody because just when the session started, I received a phone call from the Prime Minister's Office asking me to alter something on an artwork which I was doing for them at that time. As the the task was a difficult one, my mind was not fully focus on the drawings then but the show must go on & it did went on smoothly. Immediately after the show, I rushed back to my studio to meet up with that person to solve the problem.
As a professional caricaturist, you've no choice but to carry on doing the job till the end even though your mind is somewhere else but I guess my quality of drawing was not affected by the distraction.

On-site caricature drawing service for kids party.

Event: Carnegie's 6th birthday party.
Date of event: 16 Oct 2010 (Saturday).
Venue: Serangoon Garden Country Club, Singapore.
Duration: 5.30pm to 7.00pm (1.5 hours).
Average drawing speed: 6 minutes per head.

After doing a 4-hour kid's event at Centre Point earlier in the afternoon, I went to do another kid's party which was held at the poolside of a Country Club in Serangoon Garden. Of course I was tired but the show had to go on. Fortunately, I was being treated with a delicious buffet dinner after the session, not bad after all.
I realised that I'm being engaged for kids party quite often nowadays. Maybe I'm more popular with the kids I guess ;)
Hope you enjoy viewing the photos I took.

Venue: Atrium of Centre Point Shopping Mall, Singapore.
Duration: 11.00am to 3.00pm (4 hours).
Average drawing speed: 6 minutes per head.

Another kid's event but this time it had me sitting awkwardly for 3 hours on a low chair meant for kids. Luckily, the client told me to change to a normal table at the last hour otherwise my legs & back would be painful for my next event at Serangoon Garden later in the evening.
Apart from me as the only caricaturist, there were a balloon twister 'Cowboy' & his wife who was doing face painting. The kids were really enjoying themshelves at the event with some toys to play too.
